Martin Apps LLC

Focused education and reference software for healthcare and the outdoors.

Alabama-based independent software company. Each product is designed by an active practitioner or student in the field it serves, validated against authoritative sources, and built to perform when it matters — on a board exam, in the backcountry, or at the bedside.

About

Martin Apps LLC is a single-founder Alabama limited liability company. We build small, focused mobile and reference applications for two audiences we know well: healthcare learners and clinicians who need accurate teaching tools, and outdoor users operating in environments where connectivity is unreliable and decisions have consequences.

Our products are not general-purpose. They are narrow, deep, and held to standards appropriate for the context: clinical accuracy in healthcare education; sourced and citeable content in the outdoor reference category; offline-first design wherever a user might be cut off from the network when they need the app most.

We do not build attention-economy products. Our apps do not contain advertising, do not sell user data, and do not optimize for engagement metrics that are uncorrelated with whether the user actually got the answer they needed.

Apps

Wilderness Survival Companion Available on the App Store

Offline reference and field tools for the backcountry.

A 100% offline reference and emergency-triage app for hikers, backpackers, hunters, search-and-rescue volunteers, and outdoor educators. Six field calculators (water purification, shelter selection, daylight estimation, pace and distance, wind chill and heat index, triage priority), 63+ reference entries (shelters, fire, water, navigation, knots, plants, wildlife, signals, first aid), and four adaptive color themes including a tactical-red mode that preserves night vision. Sources include the US Army Survival Manual (FM 21-76), SAS Survival Handbook, CDC guidelines, and NOAA solar algorithms.

Free. No accounts, no tracking, no advertising, no data collection. Works in airplane mode.

Burn Wizard Available on the App Store

Pediatric burn assessment and fluid resuscitation, taught offline.

An educational app that teaches the Lund-Browder method for total body surface area (TBSA) calculation, the Parkland formula for fluid resuscitation, and the Holliday-Segar 4-2-1 method for maintenance fluids. Includes an interactive body diagram with age-adjusted percentages, an 8-chapter curriculum spanning pathophysiology through long-term management, clinical documentation templates, and full English / Latin-American Spanish translation. Built for medical students, nursing students, physician assistants, surgical residents, emergency medicine fellows, and first responders preparing for clinical practice.

Free. Works fully offline. No accounts, no analytics, no data collection. Local storage is encrypted with AES-256-GCM. Educational tool only — not a clinical device and not for direct patient care.

BoardBound Coming soon

AI Tutor for FNP Board Exams.

An AI-powered study companion for nurse practitioner students preparing for AANP and ANCC FNP board certification. A live AI tutor explains clinical reasoning the way a real NP preceptor would — grounded strictly in the human-written rationale attached to each question, never inventing clinical facts. Includes a 500+ question bank tagged to both exam blueprints, spaced repetition, Deep Dive mode for complex multi-system reasoning, and a readiness dashboard. Free tier included.

Pricing: $29.99 per month or $79.99 for a 3-month sprint. Coming to iOS in 2026.

How we work

Three commitments distinguish Martin Apps products from general-purpose alternatives in the same categories:

1. Clinician- or practitioner-designed

Every product is led by someone with active domain experience. BoardBound and Burn Wizard are built by an active DNP-FNP candidate with a clinical background in pediatric critical care and pediatric neuro-oncology. Wilderness Survival Companion was sourced and structured against authoritative survival doctrine, not crowd-sourced advice.

2. Sources are explicit, never invented

For BoardBound's AI tutor, every clinical explanation is grounded in a human-written rationale attached to the question; the model is prompted to refuse rather than fabricate when the rationale doesn't support a claim. Burn Wizard's calculations (Lund-Browder, Parkland, Holliday-Segar) are established clinical formulas with their methodology explained transparently in-app. Wilderness Survival Companion traces every field tool and reference page back to a citable source (FM 21-76, SAS, CDC, NOAA).

3. Built to work when the network can't

Burn Wizard and Wilderness Survival Companion are fully offline. BoardBound caches its question bank locally so review sessions don't stall on a flaky cell signal at the library or in the hospital basement. Connectivity-resilient design is a design constraint across the portfolio, not an afterthought.

Standards and validation

We treat content accuracy as a product feature, not a marketing line. Concrete examples:

Founder

Perry Martin is the founder and developer behind Martin Apps LLC. Perry is an active DNP-FNP candidate at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, with a clinical background in pediatric critical care and pediatric neuro-oncology nursing prior to graduate school. He has shipped multiple iOS applications independently and writes the code, content, and clinical material for Martin Apps products himself.

The combination of an active clinical credential and a working software practice is intentional: it keeps the products honest about what they can and cannot claim, and it makes the founder personally liable for the accuracy of what ships. There is no "growth team" optimizing for retention metrics that diverge from user outcomes.
